The Greatest Good: How Three Female Founders Are Changing The Game In Sustainable Fashion Shopping

On a serene morning in Singapore, amidst the bustling cityscape, Deven Nelson and Maithreyi Ramdas, the visionary minds behind The Greatest Good, first dreamt up a platform that would revolutionize the way we shop for fashion.

United by their shared passion for sustainability and ethical practices, they set out to create a community for eco-conscious consumers looking to make a positive impact on the world.

As I sat down with the co-founders during our cross-continental conversation, their enthusiasm was palpable. Joining us from Texas was Rania Batrice, the third co-founder, who recently became part of the team. Rania, with her extensive background in public relations and advocacy, brought a refreshing perspective to the table. Together, they are on a mission to reshape the fashion industry, one ethical shopping choice at a time.

The Genesis of The Greatest Good

The idea for The Greatest Good was a natural evolution of the founders’ lifelong commitments. Deven, a social justice advocate, found herself leaning into her personal sense of justice as she yearned for a way to contribute positively to society.

Recognizing the power of consumer choices in driving change, she was compelled to examine her own shopping choices. But she quickly realized that it wasn’t easy to find fast fashion alternatives.

Maithreyi, originally from India, had her own awakening after witnessing the environmental degradation of her home city, Bangalore.

Her career in the oil and gas industry had left her disillusioned too, and she was eager to find a more meaningful path. Teaming up with Deven felt like the perfect opportunity to channel her passion for the environment into tangible action.

Rania, a seasoned public relations professional, was the perfect complement to their team. Her experience in advocacy and her drive to make a difference resonated with the core values of The Greatest Good. Together, they formed a trio committed to providing people with a shopping platform that makes it easy to make a positive impact on people and the planet.

Navigating the Sustainable Fashion Landscape

The fashion industry is notorious for its environmental and ethical challenges. According to Fashion Revolution, 93% of fast fashion brands do not pay their garment workers a living wage. With fast fashion accounting for 8-10% of global carbon emissions, the need for change is urgent. The Greatest Good aims to address these issues by curating a selection of over 120 (and counting) sustainable and ethical brands and featuring their products on the platform, making it easier for shoppers  to discover these positive alternatives.

“We wanted The Greatest Good to be more than just a marketplace,” Maithreyi explained. “It’s an aggregator of hope, a place where every purchase contributes to a better world.”

Think of The Greatest Good as the cruiseliner of sustainable and ethical fashion. It offers a streamlined experience, allowing users to find everything in one place and filter their searches based on values like fair trade, zero waste and vegan-friendly. By doing so, it eliminates the overwhelm of wading through countless brands and certifications.

Championing Ethical Brands

What sets The Greatest Good apart is its rigorous vetting process. Each brand featured on the platform is hand-picked based on its commitment to eco and ethical practices and positive impact. “We don’t just look at the labels; we look at the heart of the brand,” Deven remarked. This meticulous approach ensures that consumers can trust the products they are purchasing, knowing they align with their personal values.

The platform also serves as a launchpad for emerging sustainable and ethical brands, offering them visibility they might otherwise struggle to achieve. “It’s about creating a community where both consumers and brands thrive,” Rania emphasized.

As The Greatest Good prepares for its official launch, the founders are optimistic about the future. They envision a world where sustainable and ethical shopping is the norm, not the exception. By empowering consumers to make conscious choices, they believe they can drive meaningful change in the fashion industry and beyond.

For millennials and Gen Z, who are increasingly prioritizing sustainability, The Greatest Good offers an easy-top-shop solution. It bridges the gap between intention and action, making it easy for anyone to contribute to a more sustainable future.
