1.Blazer

Blazers are a great structural piece to have in your wardrobe. They instantly make an outfit more polished, even if you’re only throwing it over jeans and a T-Shirt.

2. Jeans

A good pair (or two) of denim jeans is another wardrobe must-have. They can easily be dressed up or down, and have a ton of versatility – they can pair well with almost anything.

3. Dress Pants/Trousers

One or two pairs of trousers are great to have on hand for anything professional and work-related. Choose a neutral colour to ensure they’ll work well with everything else in your closet.

4. White Sneakers

White sneakers have become a fashion-forward staple that somehow works with every kind of outfit, from a slip dress, to jeans and a blazer. Check out this post of our favourite standout white sneaker styles for women.

5. Slip Dress

A slip dress is another item that adds a ton of versatility to your wardrobe. Whether you wear it on its own for a night out, or layered under a sweater for a more casual look, slip dresses are the epitome of stylish ease. See how we styled a slip dress with a silk top and white sneakers here.

6. Black Boots

Black boots are another classic item that goes with just about anything. Choose a heeled pair to dress up an outfit, or a biker boot style for a little more edge.

7. Athletic Wear

I like to have at least 2-3 workout outfits in my wardrobe at any time. This gives me enough versatility in terms of style, and it’s also practical when it comes time to do laundry.

8. Bomber/Leather Jacket

A jacket is often the finishing touch that brings an outfit together, not to mention, keeps you warm. A short jacket like a bomber or leather jacket is easy to layer and pair with a lot of different outfits.

9. Overcoat

An overcoat is essential, especially if you live in a colder climate. Here are a few great options, from fall coats to Canadian-approved winter puffers.

10. Tops (Sweaters, Blouses, Camisoles)

Having an array of tops is also a great way to mix up outfits. Incorporate a few different kinds for the most versatility (and to adapt to the weather).

11. Classic Belt

A high-quality classic belt is a great way to tie an outfit together and makes for the perfect simple accessory. Use it to cinch in the waist of a sweater, or loop it through your jeans for a completely different look.

This is also an item worth investing more in. Belts tend to get a lot of wear, and if they’re poorly made, they wear out quickly. Because of this, buying a high-quality belt makes such a difference, and will last for years in your wardrobe.

11. Crossbody Purse/Bum Bag

Phone, wallet, keys? Check. A crossbody purse or bum bag is great for those times when you’re going out, and you only need the essentials. Bonus: they’re hands-free and supper comfortable.

12. Backpack/Work Bag

The second bag that I like to keep in my capsule wardrobe is something that’s big enough to fit a laptop, notebook, and anything else I might need for work. This kind of bag can usually double as a carry-on if you’re traveling.

12. Loungewear

It’s nice to have dedicated clothing to wear at home. It’s a lot more comfortable, but still makes you feel chic and put together. Check out our ultimate list of stylish luxury loungewear brands here. You’re sure to find something you love.

13. Jewelry

Last but not least, is jewelry. This is the one area in your capsule wardrobe that you don’t need to worry about having a lot of. Jewelry takes up next to no space and does a great job of changing up the look of any outfit with no effort. I like to mix my jewelry collection with statement pieces, as well as classic pieces that I wear every day.
