SHOP THE LOOK: Aritzia bralette crop top (similar), polka dot skirt (similar),
Free People mules.
This July I was in Victoria, B.C for four days to celebrate a cousin’s wedding. It had been years since I visited Vancouver Island and was reminded of how gorgeous it is. I only wish we had stayed longer.
One thing I was dead-set on doing while in Victoria was visiting Hatley Castle. I visited almost 10 years ago and remembered it being a highlight of the trip, so I knew I wanted to go back. The visit turned into a spontaneous photoshoot (per usual), photographing this crop top and polka dot skirt outfit, which you can shop below.
ABOUT HATLEY CASTLE
If you’re an X-Men fan, Hatley Castle, otherwise known as Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters is a must-see. It’s a Victorian-style castle overlooking the Pacific Ocean, set in a huge and absolutely gorgeous garden and grounds. It’s used as a movie set for films and TV shows, including X-Men, the Green Lantern, Arrow, and Smallville to name a few.
A bit of the history:
Victorian architect Samuel Maclure was commissioned by former Lieutenant Governor and Premier of British Columbia James Dunsmuir to build the estate. Originally, it was intended to be a family home post-retirement. The castle was completed in 1908 and was the Dunsmuir family residence until 1940 when Royal Roads College used it as a dormitory and mess hall. Nowadays, the castle is part of Royal Roads University and is used as an event space for weddings, as well as being a popular tourist destination.
If you plan on visiting Victoria, B.C, I highly recommend stopping by Hatley Castle. The castle itself is worth visiting, and the views over the ocean are breathtaking. Not only that, but it makes a great photoshoot location. Check out the website here for more information on the history of the site, and to book a tour.
